Well had a really low time with my horse over the last few weeks and I was on the verge of selling him as I felt I had done all I could to stop him napping. Lots will remember my last posts but for those who dont he will not leave the yard alone, although we finally managed it last summer he had now gone 100 times worse and will not even leave with a person walking with him which last year he was fine about, he started doing it entering SJ rings when other horses were around and then fell on his side in the middle of the yard with me on him while pratting about. I dont know why it got worse as I never let him get away with it and always follow through. I was totally out of my depth and decided to sell as I couldnt do what I wanted with him and couldnt go through the stress of spending more time sorting him out.

Anyway, last week took him to instructors yard and took him in SJ field, got him through a nap. Jumped the course then
took him out the field then tried to get back in (this is usually when he naps the worst). Got through nap 2 with instructor behind him waving lunge line around and went round loads of jumps and had a fab lesson. Took him to clear round at her yard next day (was supposed to be SJ but seniors in the pm was calcelled as weather bad) and he went in with a lunge line behind him 1st and 2nd time then went in 3rd time on his own. When I say lunge line behind him I mean a person at each end and literally had to pull him in with it. Once he was in he loved it though.

My instructor has valued him at a lot more than I expected and told me that he is a fantastic horse with heaps of tallent and I should at least keep him until the end of the season and put all my effort into sorting him. Shes said its worth spending money to get him sorted and at least if it doesnt work I should get back more than I expected anyway as he would go very far in dressage.

So I have a 'problem horse sorter' coming to asses him on sunday. I explained exactly what he does and she is confident she can sort him out. The guy I wanted to send him to has broken his leg so wont be back in the saddle for a few months. So Im hoping this lady can work with him, she has come recommended, then work with the two of us. Then if all goes to plan I will send him to the original guy for a week or so and leave him at his yard to further his training.

I so hope it all works out for us as it was breaking my heart at the thought of selling him as we have come so far together in the year ive had him and he would be my perfect horse if the napping problem was sorted.

Please wish me luck for sunday.

All sounds promising - however if it works out with the lady - don't then swap to someone else. She'll have done all the hard work, and will be mightly p*ssed off to be jocked in favour of someone else.

I never thought of that tbh. The lady who is coming is freelance and does not have her own yard. However the other guy takes them on full time and you can send your horse there so I just thought I would send him there to get him hacking him in different places etc after then problem has been sorted out (which I think will be a few months tbh). But thanks for that thought, I certainly wouldnt want to upset anyone. I suppose it all depends on the results she gets really.

i have been on holiday!!! went to Djerba it in North Africa, put post up the other day about me camel ridin in the sahara and that i wanted to exchange Bracken for a Camel!!!!!! Have PM you as well!!!

Good luck Vic, I really really hope it works and good on you for keeping with him and trying, even though it can get very depressing and soul destroying (I have been keeping up with your posts re napping as mine is the same but not as bad as yours) The osteo came out to mine and said mainly due to sacral pain, so he was better last night, just two naps on a 1 hour ride. Keep us posted
