Update on Nancy's breathing

Very glad to report that little Nancy is a lot better. Just to sum up she has been really bad with COPD for weeks now and we had meeting with vet and owner (she is on permanent loan) to decide what to do. We decided to try combination of steroids/Ventapulmin on long term basis. We know this puts extra pressure on us to restrict her grass intake even more than normal.

It took about 5 days for everything to take effect but she is much, much better and even with the weather being so humid which normally makes her worse. She isn't heaving and her breathing is normal and she is much perkier!

Hooray, so relieved, even though it may not be a long, long term solution it is so nice to think that she is happier.

Thats great glad she is feeling better it must be awful for a horse not being able to breathe properly. Well done x

oh excellent news! With my pony once the problem was under control and she was breathing ok we started using a nebuliser and have done ever since and she's not needed any further medication, this works to prevent the allergic reaction and you can stop the horrible steroids. good luck

Oh thank you for reply!!! We are so happy, thanks for tip re using nebuliser. I will tell the vet!!!! Have a nice weekend!

i second the nebuliser post. My coloured traditional has nasty COPD too - vet has just agreed that he can have a ventapulmin nebuliser instead of the powder that he's had to have before. Makes a big difference!

Thanks Buzz Lightyear, will remember that, how interesting. PS almost called my foal Buzz LightYear!!!! Her father was called Orbit and I wanted a planetary/space name!!!!
