Update on "Need some help pleasee"

Thanks for everyones advice yesterday about Del and his stupidness when hacking out. I rode him again today and he was brilliant in the school, then we went out and again before even leaving the yard he was a prat, I made him walk backwards but this seemed to mean more of an excuse to rear up so I turned him back round. He spun round again and walked very fast to the fence of a field which I guessed he would try to squash me along like he did with the bushes and fence of the school the other day. So very quickly I put my whip in the hand closest to the fence, gave him three hard smacks right up his neck which shocked him and made him spin towards the exit so then I gave a big hard boot and a smack behind and we trotted very quickly out of the yard

After that I thought I'd do the same thing on the road if he pratted about, which he did when we came across the scary brown goats again (but they'd moved places this time!) which was too much for Del so he spun and reared etc again in the road. I knew there was a car heading in our direction and we were right in the way so again, gave him a few smacks up his neck, turned him very sharply (so his back legs actually skidded a bit

but he was okay) and gave lots of hard boots so that we trotted very fast past them and at the end he got a very big pat and lots of nice words and to stand still as the car went past

Having done it twice made me realise I can get him past things he doesnt want to (after I doubted myself the other day which had resulted in tears lol) and we headed home but then turned away from home again at the T junction and came across a big white scary bag which I thought would scare him and I felt him back off a bit so kept my leg on and we got past with no arguements

Also had a dog jump out of a bush at us which I think scared me more than it scared Del!! So eventually we returned home both of us happy and safe
