Vet has been & is as sure as can be without x rays etc that it's "just" arthritis in her pelvis that is causing her difficulties in getting up. She doesn't like her near hind being flexed & just leans over until she topples but amazingly she's not lame at all. I'm going to give her 1 bute a day & if that doesn't help up it to 2 & see how we go. She's been having bute for a few days before farrier visits for about 18 months because of this & it looks like now we need to make it a daily routine along with everytype of joint aid I can find.
I'm convinced that she is rolling more lately as the last Liverpool Cream scab is finally lifting (treatment finished at the beginnng of March!). She really loves being scatched around the scab so it must be really itching.
I've always said that if they can't get up ok it's time to say goodbye so I've got everything crossed the bute does it's job. Just hope she doesn't feel so good that she jumps the fence to get at the gelding she has been lusting after!

I Hope Pickle will be okay. I take it she is now getting on in years from your post.Let's hope the bute helps her to regain some of her sparkle and give her a new lease of life.

When my TBxWelshD mare was taking 2 bute per day for arthritis with no real effect, in desperation I got some magnet boots (local supplier delivered them that night) If they hadn't worked she WOULD have had to be pts by the end of the week. I put them on her for 12 hours when she came in overnight and then put her out for the day as usual. This horse, who had hobbled in everyday for the last week, TROTTED in for her tea and was field sound for the next 4 months, until unfortunately she had a stroke and was pts aged 24.
I recommend them to all and sundry, they certainly gave Poppy a good quality of life for the time she had left and I don't think that they had anything to do with her stroke - she had had a variety of health issues for most of her life.
