Ok so have decided to withdraw from the ODE on Sunday as although Pidge's sides are a lot better they are still not healed

I can rub aloe vera in without him flinching and there is lots of small bits of dry skin coming out of the two patches on his sides. So according to the vet I can ride him as he said once its got to the point where I can touch it without him flinching to start riding him again, but it is still hot and I'm just not sure how healed it would be before Sunday. Please someone tell me I'm doing the right thing as I just feel so fed up at the moment

And then to make matters worse I'm on holiday for a week and was hoping to do lots of horsey things

i really hope he heals asap! <<<vibes>>>

i think you are probably doing the right thing withdrawing from eland..because i suppose if he is uncomfortable when you ride him, he is hardly going to enjoy the day (and you probs wont either as you will worry about him). its a tough one but i think you are making the right decision.

well, the trouble is that your legs will slide over the area again, but maybe if you coated his sides with vaseline or baby oil first and tried that, as long as you can stay on (!), he might be okay? you'll just have to keep your legs really still. has he had the week off though, or have you been lungeing him? if the former, i'd scratch him tbh, but if you've kept his fitness, i'd try riding him tomorrow and see how he is before w/ding.

If you have any doubts, then withdrawing is the right thing to do. Its disapointing when you have worked so hard to prepare, but from your previous posts you obviously care alot about your horse and there is always another day.
Sorry if we wont be seeing you there x

hmmm I had thought of sheepskin numnah, sheepkin sleeve over girth and smearing in vaseline but I didn't really fancy the thought of that going round the XC

he's been on the horse walker for the last two evenings and is pretty fit, this was him on Sunday.
