Went to vets who wouldn't do anything until ticks were gone...helpful. so went to a groomer who spent an hour getting off thirty plus ticks and only charged seventeen pounds.
She is getting walked about two to two and a half hours a day on a long line. However she is chewing her bed and towel. Very weird. She has just been allowed to come and sit to watch tv with us. And in came her towel then much crashing from the litchen and she dragged her whole bed in. Put it infront of the sofa and watched tv with us. But the has casually pulled open the seam of her bed and pulling out the stuffing. Why?

She is weeing less now only one accident today.
Any ideas about the chewing greatfully received.
 
Yeuch!!!! I hate ticks.

The chewing is probably a comfort thing - it's a relaxing habit for dogs when they are a bit worried. I would remove towels and beds for the meantime - if mine are chewing their vetbeds it gets taken off them, replaced a few days later, they are left on the kennel floor without it.
I do like her style, if it is sunny B will pull his vetbed out of his kennel to a sunny spot and lie on it :p
The bed could be some sort of 'comfort blanket' for her.
 
Henry likes to haul beds about, and he too has nibbled little holes in various blankets and dog towels. Maybe it's a cocker thing? People are often presented with his bed when they come into the office! And I am regularly presented with blankets at home:)

Anyway, I have provided him with a couple of those rope toys which he is allowed to suck on, and if I catch him nibbling on anything unauthorised a sharp 'no!' normally does the trick. That and only having cheap throws:D
 
Sweep has chewed holes in the edges of his beds in the past and pulled out the stuffing - no idea why the spoilt brat!:rolleyes: - I suspect she is still feeling a bit unsure of her surroundings and is just settling in with you so i am sure she will get better as she is more content.:) As she likes her bed why not have one for the sitting room for her to sit on?:confused: both of mine have their bed in the sitting room in front of the fire all winter:). And as for the chewing maybe give her a chew of some kind for the next few weeks until she is settled - a rawhide prehaps as she in the house?:confused:

Its her first evening in the living room hence no bed in here. Will just.have to go shpping for her. No pictures because no internet yet still all on my phone grrr with wriggly little baby on my lap hence the excessive typos.
Wedding was great but tiring
Pippin improving family fitness greatly and keeps coming tp the back door with shavings in her ears and a face that says no I haven't been tormenting your rabbit. Don't panic rabbit knows she can't get him and parades infront of her

Pictures as soon as sky allows.
 
Bless her, I think as suggested by CC possibly a little anxious in regards to the chewing esp if infront of you its maybe relaxing her a little, what kind of bed did she have in her kennel?

I would maybe also as suggested us a bit a vet bed and a plastic bed maybe, they are cheap atleast and more durable than a material bed.
Maybe a kong for her to sit and have a little chew and a bit of stimualtion/distraction with that.
 
Cool will get vetbed from car. To protect boot, not spoilt! Hehe. A cheapish rip stop cushion is what she had now in pieces on my carpet. In her previous home she had old blankets but with her weeing they always stank hence the wipable bed we got her.
We have tried a kong but she only eats it when we are with her. Come down in the morning and its still full and then she'll eat it like she wants you to watch.
The other thing is we haven't found a focus for her. She isn't that bothered about food, she she likes toys but not enough to do anything for them and specific attention makes her too submissive and pee. So short of buying a string of budgies to tempt her (she has bird addiction) any ideas?
 
I think you will find something as she settles in more:) - if she isn't used to having treats or toys she doesn't understand them and their value at the moment but i am sure you will find something!!:) My cocker will do anything for food (greedy:rolleyes:), sticks or balls. Just keep trying different combinations and for different time periods so it always a game etc rather then around her all the time so she gets used to them. If she likes her kong give her that when she is in the sitting room with you. My old cocker had a plastic chicken leg and teddy that she wouldn't be seperated from - she was buried with her teddy.:(
 
bless her socks, she was peobably used to chewing her pish ridden blankets when bored and no doubt holding them in her motuh to make a comfier bed whilst dogging with her feet (to make a nice little circle) to cuddle up in.

Have you tried

cheese
Hot dog for the kong
or if you are into barf a raw bone when left alone, obs as always said by kate and Karyn jsut dont feed any dry meal on the same day.

or something squeeky for attention (squeeky ball/fluffy thing)
 
Sounds as though she is a bit anxious still and getting used to new routine and surroundings - at least she has a friend in the rabbit! :D

Vetbed will withstand a bit more abuse if she does have a chew, but think she'll stop as she feels more secure with you and realises she isn't going anywhere.

Have you tried pigs ears? I don't know a dog that can resist them :D
 
She isn't chewing her bed at the moment on the living room floor. OH drove off with vet bed in the car this morning. Tut. She doesn't eat shop bought pigs ears after I cooked some fresh ones specially for her before! Def spoilt. But just got a freezer ready to change to barf so will raid butchers for more pigs ears to cook for five hours. We are down to one accident a day touch wood. Smiles all round.
 
It does sound like she is starting to settle and hugs to all of you for thinking things through from her point of view, I think she is going to be fine.

Cockers do drag things round the house, all ours have done it, including Ruby who like to bring you her 'blankie' - normally when you are in clean clothes and its smothered in dog hair! (Pants are a favorite too!).

Pants and bras generally reserved for when there are visitors in the house of course...:rolleyes:

It sounds like she's settling in pretty well, it may take her a while to really decide that you are her peeps for keeps, but if Henry is anything to go by they are resiliant little dogs who bounce back from set-backs well:)
