Well after all considerations, and the fact that it took soooo long to plait the mane, as he was a real ar*se, we had to go for the pulled look to the tail, although my friend used a razor gadget, not sure what it is called, and I was VERY pleased with the result, it did look really smart, so will just have to keep it in check now.
Show went okay by the way, got our first rosette!!! (3rd - okay out of 3, but who cares??). When I first got on said horse to warm up, he thought he might be at a race meet! Bring on typical TB - head in the air, nostrils flaring and skipping around, he would not walk. Managed to calm him down and keep calm myself without feeling sicky, so tried out a small jump (no more than 40cm) in the warm up arena. Would he go over??!! We have been jumping 60-70 cm at home fine. Tried a couple of times and then he flew over - OMG, he jumped so high for such a small jump, not what I was expecting, that I lost a stirrup and ended up on his neck, with him cantering away with me out of control. Thankfully he is not that fizzy, and is pretty safe most of the time, so pulled him up and righted myself - phew, still alive. Okay, into the ring we go - I have my fan club at the sides who do a massive cheer when he canters on the correct leg, then it comes to my jump, and yes, you guessed it, he refused twice, grrrrrr, something to work on! Overall very pleased with him, although he was very strong, but to be expected on his first outing, but the main thing was getting the correct legs on canter, which is something he sometimes was getting confused with back home, and also that I stayed calm too - soooo pleased! The judge was also very complimentary, he has nice transitions, so there is potential after all!! Got another show this weekend, so hopefully he will get a bit more used to going out and seeing other horse in large fields and not thinking it is a race meet!
