** Sorry, I know this is in the wrong place and should be in dog section, but so many have asked for updates. Hope I don't annoy anyone. Thanks **

Well, my poor darling Poppy had a transfusion this afternoon. She was so low she had to have a whole pint.

Her red blood count had dropped to such a low level and so quickly that she had to have an emergency transfusion, from the vets own dog as it was there in the surgery!

The transfusion was complete at about 5.30 this evening and shortly after Pops had a little something to eat and drink. She hadn't eaten since Tuesday, so this is a good sign.

The critical time post trans is two hours according to the vet, and all is ok so far. It is critical tonight now whether her immune system attacks the new blood or not.

More blood tests in the morning. Also she will be given another drug which will severely dampen the immune system to, hopefully, protect the new blood. It can damage the liver, but at this stage it is the only chance, so we will go with it.

The vet says that she has not been in pain through all of this episode, so we are comforted by that.

I have never been so much on edge in my life, and I certainly haven't ever cried as much as I have over the last couple of days.

Thank you for all your kind words and hugs and vibes. They are still needed!

(((((((((((((((((vibes))))))))))))))))) for Poppy and hugs for you. I have read your other posts tonight. What a sad and worrying situation for you. I sincerely hope she pulls through.

(((((((((((((((Vibes))))))))))))))))))))) huge ammounts coming you way, all fingers and paws crossed for you here... Keep fighting Poppy girl.... xx

Hi There,

I have been reading your posts over the last few days and thinking of you and poppy, she seems like a real fighter bless her!

I really hope she keeps fighting and pulls through, I have a good feeling about her she has made it this far so she obviously doesnt want to give up..

Its so heartbreaking when you beloved pets are poorly, people who dont have animals simply dont understand how much we love them,

I shall be thinking of you and poppy tonight, and look forward to a positive update tomorrow,

Gem

I've not posted so far, but had been wondering how she was getting on. I'm keeping everything crossed for her, and you - it must be very distressing for you xx
