Vet came yesterday and listened to Reds lungs.

He says its a virus because if it was COPD or allergy related he would have got a lot more relief from the ventapulmin, the cough never eased with the ventapulmin (in fact it got a little worse)

He thinks its just the tail end of the infection as there is no more mucus and the cough has improved a lot.

He has however put him on 5 days of antibiotics to clear any bacteria away and make sure its all gone. He started that yesterday.

He said the next thing would be to scope him but doesnt think for one minuite it will come to that. Says he has a slight tiny bit of noise but that would be expected because he has been coughing for a while. Apart from that all normal and he thinks that will clear in no time!

No riding until the anti bs are gone and then gentle walking!

So im very pleased with that diagnosis.

Panic over.

Thanks ever so much guys for advising me and helping to calm me down!!

xx

Well, I'm not too sure about that......

But really pleased that he's on the mend.

Amymay had a cough last year which started around this time actually. Took bloomin ages to go - I didn't go down the antibiotic route because she wasn't in work, and I really wanted her to get over it herself - which of course she did.

Anti-bi's will speed the recovery no time - and you'll be back having fun before you know it

Im really missing riding him!!

Had a cheeky sit on him the other night, no coughs either but i only walked him.

Tried to be gentle but he was so full of it. He was arguing and very bouncy and excited to be being ridden. It was brill!! He has lots of potential when he puts his mind to it!

There was a time i would have been terrified by that!!

Hopefully the anti b's will finish the dreaded thing off!!

I don't often look in Veterinary (no idea why I did just now lol!) but there's a lot of horses with a virus that sounds the same as that around here - lots of mucus in their noses and just not interested at all. Quite contagious too but they seem to recover in a weel or two from it!

Hope he's feeling a lot better soon, and I wish I'd read your posts earlier so you wouldn't panic as much!

(but then if it had have been something worse I'd feel awful)
