We are both trying to settle into our new yard (I am already feeling at home). Everyone has been so lovely and friendly, which is lovely. Ruby is now out with the others and she has paired up with a lovely mare who is looking after her.

Ruby was kicked in the field though and took some skin off her leg, it wasn't deep so vet wasn't called. But now the bruising is coming out her leg is swollen :( (although going down day by day). She is starting to feel relaxed, I manadged to groom her outside her stable yesterday, which I have not managed to do yet as she has been so fidgety and spooky, I can forgive her since this new yard is so much more different then the old one. Other then that she has been perfect on the ground and not silly or exciteable.

She hasn't been eating her hay in the stable overnight (she did the first night though:confused:), which is worrying. She is eating her feed and eating good grass throughout the day though, she is passing water and doing her normal ammount of poo's. The hay I am currently using, is the hay I had left over from my old yard, so it hasn't changed and she ate it before the move. I will try mixing in some new tonight and see if that helps.

Haven't ridden yet, due to her being kicked and not wanting to rip the wound open again (it's healing nicely!) but may go for a gentle walk around the school later.

YO has a spare 10 acres of grazing which is not being used, so has offered the liveries the chance to use it, which means they can go out 24/7. I have put Ruby's name down for this and the owner of Ruby's new friend has aswell which will be nice for her :).

I left her heacollar on for a couple of days, just to be sure I could catch her (new field is 13 acres!) and she has been fab, so headcollar is now off!

Heres some photos of her...

Thanks for reading and if you have any advice or suggestions on what I can do to make her feel more at home, let me know :)

To get her eating again, you could try a bale of hi fibre Horsehage, it isnt high energy but the taste is very palatable and might tempt her to scoffing a proper amount. Once halfway through the bale you can start mixing the old hay back in with it until you are back to all hay.

hope this helps. She is very beautiful!

Glad you are settling in - Ruby is so pretty, I love her! Sounds like you are doing all you can to help her settle, I think my only tip is to keep as much as possible to her established routine, even once she is out 24/7. She might be off her hay because of the change or is she on more grass than before? I would just keep an eye, mine have only just started to eat their hay at night after moving to their summer fields (with plenty of grass) three weeks ago.

Thank you :)

Will defiantly consider this! I will see if the new hay makes a difference first then look into this option. Hopefully she can move on to the 24/7 turnout at the weekend and she much prefers the grass!

I love the C shape she has on her face - cute! I think trying to stay as close as possible to previous routine and feed, with consistent handling and time, is about all I could suggest. So basically what you are doing. If she knows and trusts you, that will help lots I'm sure, plus having a horsey friend. Sounds great!

Thank you Attheponies.

It may be just because she is still unsure of her stable, she always has other Horses in her viewpoint at all times so hopefully this will help to settle her. The grass is very good so she may just be stuffing herself then too full to eat her hay?! although that usually hasn't stopped her in the past!

Thanks Bernster, the "C" always gets remarks, shame my name doesn't begin with a C! :p

I'm so happy she has made a friend. Shes a lovely ex racer. Her and Ruby are joined at the hip!
