apologies for the duplication, but trying to gather information.

Firstly, I just want to thank all of you who took the effort to reply to my thread on Rudy. And to all the people who PM'd me.

Basically, I got the vet to check him over.
She came out with Annabel Jenks. We spent ages discussing what had gone on, both of them went over him, flexion tests etc.. It was decided that he was to go into the parctice for a full work up and also a scope to check for ulcers.

I took him in last Wednesday evening.
The results were this.
He has a slight imbalance in his front right, which is why he failed flexion there. This will be remedied when he is next shod.
Free from any gastric ulcers
No reason to suspect KS or any spinal impingement.
Considering I didn't think he was lame, this next bit of news was a little bit shocking.
He has moderate damage to BOTH hind suspensories. He was xaryed, blocked, then scanned. He was started on a course of shockwave and is now on bute and box rest with 2 10 minute walks every day.

Vet seems to think that the damage has been there for a couple of months

But, I do not think this has much to do with the bucking. Yes, I believe it is kind of related, but he aparently bucked before I got him......did he have this injury too?

Does anyone have experiences with this type of injury? And how successful is shockwave?

Thank you once again for all your advice. It was much appreciated.

I'm butting in here a bit but I missed the first posts about Rudy. How old is Rudy and is he TB? I only ask because I owned a chesnut horse who was known as Rudy and had a white stripe on his head and he used to buck so just wondered if possibly was the same horse? Can't really see him properly from the pictures.

Hey chick,
I know it's not the news you were hoping for but at least vets were relatively positive about treatment? And he does look to be a very good boy to have on box rest, glad I got to meet him at last

Fingers crossed he comes through this as right as rain xx

Not the same horse! I've now found all the posts from earlier, really do feel for you. Funnily enough my Rudy was part exchanged in the end because of his bucking and we did go down the pain route but couldn't find anything. As you said in your first post - red heads are inclined to be hot headed, perhaps the combination of pain from his suspensory ligaments and a bit of temper make the bucking more extreme. I really hope it all sorts out for both of you, I have had lots of horses with ligament and tendon injuries (other peoples chuck outs) and generally the best healer is time.

Don't feel too guilty, it sounds as though you have been very sympathetic with him and have done everything to find the source of the pain. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you have a happy ending.

Ah, you have the famous PSD

do a search in both comp riders and vets, seems to be a lot of this diagnosed.
It is treatable in many cases, shockwave first course of action and then surgery if shockwave fails.

You would be shocked at just how many horses have been diagnosed with this and owners haven't noticed their horse is lame. Sometimes (especially when bilateral) it is very hard to tell. It could certainly account for a worsening in bucking behaviour
