A while ago I posted about my horses fear of sheep, well over the past few days all seemed to be going well and he actually accepted the sheep in his field and really seemed to have got over his fear.
Today the sheep were moved and a man and his sheep dog went in to move them from the field a short distance from my horses field. All of the horses got a tad stressed as the sheep ran in one big flock, as they normally would.
I was in just finishing Williams stable and the YO's hubby came over and said he thought one of the horses had jumped the fence and was the wrong side, I shot out and with a great sinking heart saw that it was my boy and he was standing stock still in a crop field in a very odd position, I ran and got his head collar and ran up to find him them other side of a very damaged fence, he saw me and gave a pitiful neigh, I checked his back legs, nothing, then front legs and felt sick. He had the biggest laceration to his armpit imaginable he did not want to move and was clearly in immense pain. We managed to take down the fence and it took half an hour to get him to his stable which normally takes 2 minutes.
The vet arrived and confirmed he was severely injured so much so that he had gas under his skin and the wound was approx five inches deep and eight inches long, the vet could put his whole hand up to his wrist into it.
After 3 1/2 hours the vet managed to put five layers of stitches in and has bandaged the whole leg for support in case it is fractured as Wills just does want to use it, we will know in a couple of days whether it is just the soreness and bruising from the wound.
He is now cross tied in his house until Thursday when we will know more so please send good vibes as I'm just so sad about the whole incident.
