Thank you to everyone that has got in touch with us about our dog Stanley who has a blood disease. He is still really poorly but it seems he has made a really small improvement. He is still very much in the woods though. we have had an unbelievable amount of responses to our apeal for blood for transfusion and lots of people who did not realise that the process was possible. It looks like we have blood for the weekend if needed but we have made lots of contacts we may call on yet. Having spoken to the nurse at The royal Vet college, they keep a register of suitable donors and call upon them as and when they need to. the reason being is that there are restrictions on how much blood they can store and blood only stores for 5 weeks. they are always needing donors. So this is how you can help. If you have a dog that meets the following crietria it may be suitble for their records.

Your dog needs to be *above 25-30kgs *in good health *not too old. dogs who have travelled abroad or have recieved a transfution are also not suitable.

there are 2 types of blood, posative and negative. only 30% of dogs are negative so they are short on negative donors. Stan is negative, hense the apeal for blood yesterday.

The hospital are sending me leaflets on donating blood with info on how to register, I will update this post when I recieve them.

I have been in contact with a lady called Julie who has registered her dog Thor at her local Vets. I imagine that if you want to help Stan or other dogs that need blood transfutions, then you do like Julie has done and get down to see your vets.

Donor dogs recieve a full free check up and blood test before the donation which takes abot 10 to 15 minutes. The Vet collage will give you a free bag of food for your dogs trouble and there is no cost to you at all!

so thanks to you all and we will keep you posted!! Feel free to contact us for further info.
