Hi guys,

I posted a few months ago for advice on swapping to raw. I got some great advice and we started to slowly make the switch but then she got ill again and we've finally got a definitive diagnosis and wonder whether this changes what we should be feeding her.

The vet finally (!!!) agreed to do a blood test for pancreatitis and the results have come back as her having a very high degree of pancreatitis. I was told she had a score over a 1000 (I forget what the unit was that they were testing). A result of 400 would have been bad pancreatitis so her score is pretty dire.

We've been told to feed her a low fat diet (she's already on lean turkey mince, pollack and sweet potato while we swap her onto raw). The problem is that there seems to be conflicting advice on the quantity of protein to feed with my vet suggesting pure protein and someone else suggesting low protein and a greater amount of carbs. Who is right?

Would feeding a raw diet be ok for a dog suffering from pancreatitis?

Does anybody know of a proper specialist who deals with this condition who she could get referred to and who would be able to give me definitive advice?

I've changed vets today and really want to get on the right tracks with her as she's suffered enough now.

Hopeful for some pointers...?

When my old CKCS was recommended a low protein diet for renal problems I rang natural instinct. They got their vet to phone me and we had a good discussion about diet. He was very helpful

Thanks Satinbaze, I'll give Natural Instinct a ring in the morning and hopefully they can help. I just want some hard facts - I find that a lot of people are a bit evangelical about diet and it's hard to get to the actual proven facts. I just want to do the right thing for my dog based on her condition as she means the world to us.
