Update on the vet coming and have to say how lucky I am to have him!

Chester was just fine as I suspected. Vet gave him a tet booster (tet antitoxin) and pennicillin. He agreed with how lucky we were as steel walls kill many many horses! They are like razor blades when tore open and horses can get desperately caught and rip themselves to shreds trying to free a leg!
Well since he was here I decided to give all the yearly vaccines now
I adore this vet! The entire call cost me $160!!!!!!

I am sorry to talk about money, but I was just so pleased. He is always so fair to us and our old vet from when we lived an hour away was very expensive in comparison! It would take a second job just to get them there for a coggins test!

anyhow the price I stated above covered all of this...
1. Farm call charge (which he never charged us)
2> 1 dose of Pennicillin (given by vet)
3.one dose of Tet antitoxin (also admisistered by vet)
4. Exam of wound (we used to get charged a seperate fee besides farm call just to look at anything!

And all of the recommended yearly jabs (too lazy to list all) for 4 horses! (excluding west nile virus which I give in spring)

anyhow, I am lucky to have him!
not to mention he is a very patient and good vet!

I've only dealt with our small animal practice here so far and OMG, I need a second mortgage already. I have to have my two barn kitties spayed, but first I had to have them vaccinated against God knows what, and de-wormed, because the stuff I bought over the counter at the Pet Store "doesn't work, don't you know!" Bill for vaccinations (boosters due in 2 weeks) and examinations (why?..) was $ 175! Lord only knows what the spaying will cost

Oh I miss being a vet nurse!

To vaccinate my 5 cost me about £90, and that was inclusive of visit, and to quick exam my mare. I only paid cost price for anything.

Now not working for them... to come out to mare the other day, £42 call out!!!, £18 exam fee, £70 blood tests!!!
 
my vet charges normally £45.00 to examine
£40.00 call out or £20.00 if on zone day (thurs)
£40.00 vacs
£110.00 blood tests
£235.00 xrays
yet to find out what scans cost


think i may need to remorgage too at this rate, as i've still to pay for 2 lots of x rays, scans, 2 days while my horse stayed there.
and bill for last month just come and thats £380.00. thats me on beans and toast for the rest of the month lol.
 
Enfys. I am not sure if you have the same kitty problems as we do on this side of the pond but I wanted to suggest something to you just in case now that you are over here. Vets usually test for feline lukemia but often neglect to give them a blood test for FIV. It is the cats version of AIDS. I was shocked 7 years ago to find out that my BOB had it!

They can get it through fighting or be born with it. Outdoor kitties are especially prone to it.

If any of your cats test positive Spaying and neutering is the best course to stop them from spreading it as they (especially the males) are less prone to fighting and the females obviously once spayed cannot pass it on the the kittens. Sounds like you are already took care of that end of it so good for you!

It makes the Feral cat poulation get out of control and spreads these diseases further. Not to mention the thousands upon thousands PTS at the humane societies with not enough homes

She has never had her cat tested for FIV and she has never even had her to a vet
