Just wanted to update you on the Tildren post that I posted last week in the Veterinary section as I was concerned about my lovely horse going into the veterinary clinic for his third Tildren infusion.
I dropped him off in the morning and he settled into the usual stable he finds himself in when visiting the clinic. You could put him on the moon and as long as he has a hay net hed be happy! I got a phone call around one pm to say he had had the treatment and was slowly coming round from the sedation and I could pick him up about 4pm.
When I picked him up he was very quiet but as this was his third treatment I knew he would be knocked around a little by the drugs so expected him to be like this. When I took him home (20 minute journey in trailer) he went straight into his stable which I had prepared earlier giving him a nice deep shaving bed. Initially he stood in the corner looking very miserable and wouldnt eat polos or his haylage net so I guessed he felt a little poorly. I intended to go back up later that evening and check him so I left the yard to go home. An hour before I was due to go back up to the yard I got a phone call from my friends saying they were worried about him and he was lying down looking colicky so I rushed there but by the time I got there hed stood up again and was starting to pick at his net. He hadnt passed any droppings but as hed had about ½ a haylage net all day I guessed he might not until the next day. I decided to go home for the night about 10pm and was at the yard at 6am the next day where I found him with his head over the stable door calling out for his breakfast and the stable full of pooh! What a relief. He had also had loads of wees which he always does after Tildren for some strange reason and his stable was awash with it. He galloped round his field when he got turned out, so I decided to take him to the combined training later that day that I had pre-booked into and the vet had said would be okay to do. We won the Novice 27 with 64.6% and came 4th in the elementary 44 (error of course). Was really pleased with him. Yesterday I did some grid work with him and he jumped very nicely so I was delighted. I am so glad that he had the Tildren and although the side effects are not very nice they only seem to last a few hours at most. Interestingly my friends horses have had Tildren and they have never had any side effects.
