Thought I would let you all know. The horse I posted about yesterday, who lost a huge amount of blood after being tubed. Well I am very sad to say he lost his fight last night.
He had a PM this morning and he was found to have a large tumor around his wind pipe that had started to press on his oesophogus (sp?) It was just inside his chest cavity, hence why there were no outwards sign of this.
As for the blood loss from being tubed. The practice has said that although he was terminal, such a huge blood loss due to being tubed (three 5litr buckets worth, so thats around 30 pints) added greatly to his suffering. So I think there is some kind of fee waver for treatment being agreed.
I feel relief that we have the answers we needed. I still feel angry towards the vet who tubed him, as to climb in their car and drive off when a sick horse has blood pouring from his nose is just not on. And to have been spoken to like an idiot when we said this is not right was insult to injury. I have seen a fair few horses being tubed, a small blood loss is common yes, but 30 pints is not.
But now he is in a better place, and we have been given our much needed answers as to why such a great horse had died.

I loved him dearly as if he were my own. I will miss him very much.

Im so sorry.

I read your previous post and it now seems that although there was an an uderlying issue, the vets incompetence made things 10 times worse. xx

Are the owners pursuing it?

I'm really sorry it came to this for you; I know how much you loved and will miss him.
At least you have your answers which WILL help a little, believe me.
I hope this vet is severely reprimanded for his actions; not only his treatment for the horse but his attitude towards you all. Some of these new vets think they are gods, great shame the vet colleges don't teach them how to eat humble pie occasionally.

I'm so sorry.

I think it was obvious to a few of us that something pretty serious was going on that was undectable to the eye. But agree, that the whole thing could have been handled better.

Hugs to you and the rest of your team. Such a sad way to loose a much loved friend. (((((((((((((((((((((((((( hugs ))))))))))))))))))

Thank you all. Sorry i couldn't get on to say so last night but it kept saying the site was down and this morning I had to start for work early incase the roads were bad with snow.

Hi I've been watching your threads and am so sorry for what happened (((((hugs))))) But you don't half scare me about what it will be like to start out as a vet (If i get into vet science :S) So sorry you lost the horse xx

Im sure you will be fine. Just remember a few simple things and you wil gain respect from your clients.
Don't speak to us like we are fools.
Listen to what we tell you about our animals, after all we know them best.
Admit when you just don't know.
And don't try to hide things from us, be honest.
A little bit of humility will serve you well in life.
Good luck in your course x
