Nearly a week ago, I hacked my boy out and he felt very slightly lame behind (and slightly tense behind the saddle area) This did improve with a lot of walking but I wasn't convinced so I got the vet out on Thursday. His initial trot up he was 1/10 lame behind (flexion tests made him more sore) When lunged on a small circle, he was uncomfortable and kept 'skipping' with his back legs and wad definitely lame. I mentioned the shivering thing but the vet thinks this is a secondary problem related to something else. When checking his back, she found a sensitive spot in the lumbar region and has suggested that it might be kissing spine.
She has advised to give him two weeks off with no ridden work and during those two weeks, get my Chiropractor out to treat him. After the two weeks, she is coming back to reassess - if no pain then leave it there, if pain/lameness still present then she is going to X-ray his back and his hocks.
Really hoping it isn't kissing spine but haven't really had any experience with it myself. He has been jumping and working fine up until a week ago - but as mentioned in previous post has become sensitive to hoof pick, being tacked up, being shod behind and I noticed today he even swished his tail when I put his rug on.
Any advice/opinions much appreciated!
