Well I did tack him up to travel but my OH (ok with cars, useless with horses, and no help whatsoever!) drove the trailer and I followed behind so I could keep my eye on him. He was absolutely fine and I was so pleased I did it because when we arrived it was a struggle to get his travel boots off never mind having to put his tack on.
Anyway, it was his first show, a very low key, riding club members show and he was fab! He was terrible on the ground but as soon as I got on his back he was very well behaved. We had one down in the showjumping and went clear in the cross country so I'm so proud of him!

We always travel our horses to hunting tacked up, even if it's quite a long way. We've never had any problems.

well done good day!!! fwiw i always take young horses tacked up (no bridle just saddle),,,, after having one pull back at a show as i got the martingale looped onto girth,, and watched him drag my brand new saddle accross the car park bouncing up and dwn behind him unable to release itself!!!!

I dont know if its any help but when the lad was a 4 year old I took him to his first shows to not compete. We just put a bridle on and mooched around introducing him to everything.

Then for his firsy real shows I got there 30 mins too early just to repeat the getting to know the field bit.
