So today was my first lesson with one of the teams, and it didn't go too badly!
Had to travel all the way to ipswitch from colchester! Lucky most riders in the team have cars! First we watched the other team members finish off their lesson. I have to admit i felt pretty aprehensive at that point as they were all amazing riders! I thought i would end up making a fool out of myself by riding terribly or falling off!
Luckily had a really nice horse to start off with, so different to the horses i usually ride! Nice expresive movements and worked on the bit nicely. Even got a walk to canter transition that i wasn't expecting! Just gave him the aids and off he went, not a single stride of trot inbetween! Surprised me so much that i'm amazed i didn't fall off backwards! :p
The next horse i rode (as we swapped halfway through for some reason) was a smaller little cob type, totally different to the first. Much slower and harder to get moving, but still a nice little horse and got a few good transitions out of him. The other riders are much better than me but i didn't feel as misplaced as i thought i would! And the instructor was nice and gave some good feedback.
Next week we'll be jumping, fingers crossed i don't fall off! Will be nice to jump some bigger jump again (well when i say big no bigger than 3ft, but thats huge to me!)
thanks for reading this far, chocolate ecclairs for all!:D:p

awww excellent well done!!! And stop putting yourself down- you were obviously good enough to get onto the team in the first place!!

I was in the uni team in my last year at uni so totally appreciate how scary it is. I used to love the flatwork but absolutely pee my pants at the jumping! Was really good fun though.

Best of luck!! xx

i always used to hate the jumping bit- i was the team captain and so had to alwyas ride the one random nutter they'd bring out for the sjing that nobody else fancied getting on

I didn't even know there were such a thing as uni teams! I'm only a part timer at uni for this year but hoping to be at uni full time next year so this is something that I will def look out for. How did you guys get involved?

I suppose it depends what uni you go to? For my uni they had a list of sports on their student union website and the horse riding section expalined a bit about the team and riding club and gave the contact details of the team captain who then gave me the date for the tryouts. :)

Thanks for that. I have tried to have a bit of a look on my uni's website to see if they have one but no luck in showing me it. Guess I will have to pluck up the courage and just ask someone. Hope it goes well for you!
