For those who know the story here's a little update. She has been coming in like a little angel for the past 2 days now. Today, the dentist came to do all their teeth, she comes every 6 months. My mare was last to be done, dentist put her hand in mares mouth and was a bit surprised. We've found that when she was a baby one of her wolf teeth was not removed correctly, it was snapped off therefore leaving the big root behind. The gum has grown over it at first but it’s taken around 10years for the root to be pushed up to the surface so that you can actually feel it, it’s causing the mare a lot of discomfort and if it’s not removed it will start hurting her really badly as her gums are now trying to get rid of it, by pushing it through the gum that has grown over it so many years ago. We have to have the vet out to sedate her and then dentist can remove the root. Dentist did say that we couldn't have known about it before as the root was so on the surface and the only way to have known that it was there would have been an x-ray of her head, but because there was no reason to have that done, we didn't find out about the root until now.
I think this explains a lot as to why she didn't want to come in, ducked out at jumps etc. Now i feel incredibly guilty for all those times that i got angry at her when she ducked out, ran away from me in the field and was generally naught as she was just trying to tell me that it hurts.
So to ease her discomfort until we can get the evil root out, we put her in a hackamore. She seemed much happier and didn't duck out at all, not even on the skinnies
I'm proud of her but at the same time i feel incredibly sorry for her and am very angry at myself
Sorry, this is very long. Chocolate muffins and coffee for everyone!
