Rosie woke up today. They decided to get her out of bed into a kind of recliner chair because they had removed all external aids other than the feeding tube and they thought it might just give her a nudge. She was apparently quite clearly aware of who was talking to her (was squeezing my husband's hand), had her eyes half open and was following movements round the room. At one point staff were speaking loudly to a patient in the next bed and she turned her head to see what was going on.
She was up for about an hour or so and then Mum left while they put her back in bed. When she and my son went back she lifted her head and looked at them then drifted off to sleep when Mum suggested she should. They're talking about moving her to another ward in a few days.
It seems the sedative she was on stays in the system for five days and today is the 5th day since they stopped it and her Mum thinks that + the stimulation of being sat upright is what did the trick. Whatever, we are thrilled although I daresay she'll go back to sleep for the next few days (she always has been able to sleep for England).
So happy to be able to share this good news with you all
