Much like the title implies what are some good upper level riding schools or trainers with lesson horses either near Cowfold or Brighton area. I’d like to either find something near my pony or near school. I currently ride at the elementary/medium level with my pony in dressage but it’ll be a good 6-8 months before he is cleared to lesson at that level as he is rehabbing a moderate LF tendon injury. Would also love suggestions on eventing trainers/schools too as I would like to get into eventing.

Would also like to hear from people experienced in loans what price range I would be looking at for a decent schoolmaster type either part or full loan I would love to know and what those entail typically. My guy is being retired from jumping. He’s 22 and we figure while the tendon might hold up to little things and logs on trails asking him to lesson over jumps is unfair and too much a risk. It will also likely be a good 4-5 years before I can buy a serious event horse so that is off the table.

For lessons - either Lomond at Horley for dressage, or you’re looking at heading to Wellington (Basingstoke way) for all three disciplines - there’s very little in the area.

If you find a trainer offering lessons on their own horses, please check whether they’re licensed to do so.

I think Charlotte Lassetter at Goodwood does schoolmaster lessons but I think there might be mixed reviews.

Char L hasn’t been at Goodwood for years. The yard was taken over by someone else who then did offer lessons on Spanish schoolmasters (alongside two very good coaches who didn’t stay overly long ;)) but it formally closed last year.

Any chance the two good coaches stayed around lol. That’s one big issue is not knowing the area or how the horse industry is in the area as im coming from the states and am used to the industry here and navigating it.

Places like that are rare and nearly everyone has to travel distances. I would say Lomond.
I figured. I’ve noticed that as I gained experience finding lesson horses was much harder and school masters that were capable of what I was learning even harder. Being a working student helped but I burned out of that after 15 years because it’s an extremely unhealthy environment here in the states and I decided a while ago I would rather enjoy my horse and had no desire anymore to do anything grand. Now that I’ll be going to school in Brighton I’m finding I would like to just enjoy growing and seeing how far I can expand my education and capabilities.

You may be better looking to go away for a long weekend etc to find those that can help. Arrow Training in Herefordshire, if they're still running, would be one possible, I'm sure there are others.

They both freelance, one of which is close to your area, but you’d need your own horse :)
