I currently have the above and it carries my 14.2 and a friends ok but I am forever thinking about the weight and wouldnt ever travel anything any bigger with mine although I have travelled a 16hh with no issues height wise.

Is it possible to uprate and if so how? and what implications would his have? I passed my test in 1999 so would I need a further test? if so its probaly not worth it :(

Some Masters can be uprated, to about 3.85t (tho it depends on the specific model)

BUT to do so will take you into the C1 licences (over 3.5t and under 7.5t) category so you would have to take towing test unless you passed pre 1997.

Also a lot of smaller garages will only do up to 3.5T trucks so you might have to travel further afield.

Personally if wanting to go up in weight I wouldn't want to go to the limits with a Master, I would move onto a purpose designed 4.5t truck like Iveco Daily or Merc Sprinter/VW LT based truck.

Yes you can, you have to change the springs and then plate it. I think the springs can cost a few hundred pounds (this is what I have been quoted when buying from a dealer) but I expect an ordinary mechanic may be cheaper. I'm not sure what the actual process is - it can definitely be done, at least to make it a 3.9 tonne, which should give you a more comfortable payload. however, it's the plating each year that is more inconvenient and expensive.

Yes, you would need to take a test to drive more than 3.5, so prob not worth it unless you take two larger ponies/horses very often.
