I see that others have recommended that you contact feed companies for rationing advice...but I would like to give a word of warning. I've managed a few yards over a few years...and never once met a horse that needed the ration suggested by the feed company...but then, they are in the business of selling as much feed as possibe...

I'd keep her as she is now...and see how she looks in a week or two and only then increase it if necessary...
 
Thats what I thought I would do. The lovely people on here have given me many suggestions and if Plan A fails then I have B & C to fall back on LOL I am pretty sure though that the Speedibeet will do the trick, I don't know why I didn't think of it before

I never thought that I'd ever have problems putting weight on her, she looks at a carrot normally and puts on a pound!!!
 
A HW at this time of year does seem excessive, but if she needs it, she needs it. I would suggest you layer rather than put one rug on, it will trap heat in a better way IMHO. Good luck to you and don't let others comments piss you off too much!

Weezy - I agreee with the layering, its not as cold tonight but its been down to 1c here with thick frosts. Not sure if I told you but after our beach 'ducking' I obviously got a new hat, from a different shop, had it fitted and the lady said that the J3 was totally the wrong hat for me, so now I have the Adventurer

i swear by alfa a oil, speedibeet and bailey's topline cubes (although your already feeding 16 + which is fine) for getting weight on, i nearley had my old girl put down a couple of yoears back, after moving from a numpty yard where they insisted she was stabled and fed on basic chaff and nuts, i moved her chucked her out she was as skinny as a rake - this was in feb, by the end of march she looked much, much better!
in your case i would increase your mix to manufacture's recommendations or add a vit/min sup, lose the honeychop in exchange for alfa oil, and add some speedibeet, weigh you 1/2 scoop of mix - you might be surprised a standard bowl scoop only holds just over a kilo of mix, and almost 2kg cubes......

ETS don't bin your good doer....why not add a bucketful to her hay ration overnight? the more fibre the better!
