I am very confused over my mare having an upset tummy, it goes something like this!!

3 weeks ago she got an uspet tummy, not runny but like a cow pat, it had no shape to it at all. At first I put it down to the spring grass coming though, then I thought it was the Linseed Oil she has in her food, so I stopped that. After a week it was no better so I put her on pro biotics that I got from the vet last year when she got the same thing (and it cured it after a few days), I also moved her into a different field. It still did not work and we still had cow pat poo's. She was almost due for worming so i wormed her last week with Equest Paramox, hey presto, the very next morning we had totally normal poo........that was until last night

I poo pick the field twice a day and last night it was back to cow pat status again. I am totally confused as worming her seemed to cure it for 5-6 days.

Do you think she needs worming again or should I call the vet for their advise? I am a bit of a panic pants and don't want to ring the vet and make myself look a nana

Hopefully you lot can come up with some advise!!

Thanks

Tricksy - I wouldn't worry yourself unduly. Horses droppings are often like that at this time of year.

You should see the big girls. It looks like some kind of nuclear fallout comming out of her backside - and the smell??????

Spring grass, rain, change of grazing can all have an effect. And unless she is obviously unwell I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Does the coligone really work? Its quite expensive at £50 a month but obviously worth it if its good stuff and makes her tummy more settled

I knew that H's Mum sold it, she has done so well with it!

I think that i will see how she goes for another week or so and if its no better then I think that I will give the Coligone a go.

Thanks for the advise

Whack them on NAF pink powder for a month and see how they go. My boys poo was exactly the same, put him back on PP at the weekend as i normally do with mine at this time of year and its looking better already
