Has anyone ever experienced a young gelding with a confrimed tear in his urethra??
My 5 year old gelding has just had surgery to try and take the pressure off the area where the tear is. The symptoms prior to his surgery were squirts of blood (up to a dozen at a time) straight after he peed.
My local vets treated him for a bladder infection that never got any better after a couple of weeks, so he was referred to the Animal Hospital where they performed the surgery. I would really like to hear from anyone else who's gelding has suffered from this. I have been told it is very rare although there have been a few cases in the USA. Thanks

Hi Mairi - no one seems to really know how he managed it, it is so rare that they are unsure. The operation the vets gave him had never been carried out before and the animal hospital had to seek advice from a vet in the US. It is so frustrating because 2 weeks on from the Op he is still passing blood. The vets has hoped that the Op would put an end to the bleeding - but thats not happened yet. I was hoping there may have been someone else who had also had a horse that suffered the same thing, so I could quiz them!! but so far I am having no joy what so ever. My horse has now been out of action for 9 weeks and I still have no real answers!! cheers Cat
