ADVICE NEEDED PLS ON BEHALF OF A FRIEND!
my friend has a 17.2hh 5 yr old recently broken.. and every now ang again he bronks but when he does it he lifts all 4 Up in air... what can she do to stop this! Please help!!

The best way to stop it is to find out why he does it, not being flippant but there will be a reason it may take time to find out why. Is he getting too much feed, not enough work/time out.
Has he had a saddle fitted correctly, back checked properly by physio, teeth done, there are many things to rule out, a full work up by the vet may be required.

I'd agree with be positive. It's hard to say how to stop it without knowing why. If its just silliness, then keeping him forwards & giving him something positive to do with his energy will help. But if its pain related, that would just make it worse.

How much turnout does he get & is it before he is ridden? Daughters pony is rising 5, & always has a good bronc & a canter when she's first turned out. So if she's ridden first thing its not uncommon for her to do the same if not kept occupied on first coming out. She only stays in overnight in winter & isn't 5 till autumn so its easy enough to give her either 10 mins in the field first or a quick loose lunge.

if you've ruled out pain then hes prob taking the pee! mine is 5, does exactly the same so i feel her pain! i ride him through it, keep him going forwards and totally ignore. if shes not confident she could get some lessons?

Whilst trying to work out why he does it, she could try and bend his neck round. He should find it difficult (hopefully impossible) to bronc with his neck bent round.

Echo the good advice above. What is he being asked to do when he goes into a bronc? Is there a pattern - maybe it is when he leaves his comfort zone, or using new muscle groups. With all the physical things checked maybe it is just that he is only recently broken is he being asked to learn things faster than he can cope with.

If your friend has lessons their instructor would be best placed to comment as they will know both horse and rider... but good luck to both of you finding the cause and remedy

My boy does exactly the same, fine on bridle paths and in the school, however open grass land . . . Back arches and he is off doing the bronc, such a pain but it is only just started to occur for the last month . . . Think its more of an excitment thing with my boy . . . Any suggestions though are good

Mine used to do it in the school I got a good instructor who gave me the confidence to ride her through it and to carry on with what ever I was trying to do worked really well and my confidence went up loads unfortunately didn't stop her doing it out hacking
