Good Morning!

I am on a mission for help!!!

You may have read in the newspapers about the starving horses that are dyeing everyday on the Manmoel mountain in Ebbw Vale. We are part of a group of people on facebook putting out desperate appeals for horse feed..but HAY only as thye are now also dying from Colic because of people wanting to help but feeding them carrots... as well as any covers that could keep the animals warm, everyday more and more horses are starving and dying on this mountain, there are massive appeals on Facebook for help, but we are now looking for suppliers to help out in any way possible to keep the flow of food coming, but also anything that could help keep these poor things warm in these horrible conditions! :(

If you could help us in ANY way possible this really would be amazing!

Please send money so the people on there can buy hay. Unfortuately well intentsioned people are feeding them food scraps and there has been a case of colic.

Unfortuately this a longe term problem and the council do not see it as their problem as the animals are on commen land.
To rehome one of these ponies costs £80 so if you are looking for a small companion rehoming one of these will make room for ponies off the commen.

Hay i understand, but regarding warmth ? you do not mean rugs do you ? the likely hood of you being able to put one on them let alone remove it and adjust it if it slips is extremely unlikely.

I will however be putting something towards it regarding money later when at home :)
 
I'm afraid I agree with S4Sugar, the authorities should be dealing with this, not well meaning individuals who are causing more problems feeding the wrong things.

As hard as it is, I'd put my energies into harassing anyone who'll listen so that action can be taken for these poor ponies, feeding them hay, while a natural instinct, is a temporary fix that will prevent real help getting to them.

I do think that sadly a cull is needed to stop this suffering. :(
 
I live in the locality, this is not a new problem... Neither has the local council stood up to help. Many have been re-homed, few have died... I am not sure of the answer, its all fine to save these horses but what future will they have? I don't know... Becoming cynical in my old age...
 
i agree a cull would be in order and start with ALL colts and stallions to stop breeding then if council decide they save money by maintaining the environment they may provide basic care when they re-introduce them.

people do they best by propping up the animals in situations like this but it just seems to prolong the suffering of the majority
 
I too was thinking of a cull... Something which wouldn't of entered my head five yrs ago. I have somehow ended up with a two yr old gelding, from a similar situation..yes he was cheap, he's a nice size but I'm under no illusions that he's going to cost far more than he's ever worth.
Also something that concerns me is these ppl who are trying to help,are they then returning to their own horses... Infection will be rife where neglect is so obvious.

Hmmmm, according to one article I've read some of these ponies have strangles. :(
 
I heard there was one confirmed case, though suspect it was a rumour because with horses that poor it would have spread like wildfire...

Indeed, but I do think that the council needs to stand up to its responsibilities, and ideally the horses should not be in the same postion next year and the year after, which without any hard decisions made now they undoubtedly will be.
