Need a back person for an elderly 12.2 so no rough stuff! Two people have said they'll get back to me with recommendations but haven't, time is going on and I need to get this pony looked at.
Anyone recommend someone reasonable and reasonably gentle in the Wilts area?

i've known people take ponies to him, i'm sure he'd be fine! My friend who SJs has always used him for her ponies; in fact i think everyone i know round here who needs a back man goes to him!

Ive heard that Tex Gamble isn't particularly good. try Andrea Minton - a very very lovely lady, and gentle too. Not only does she do the required physio, but left me with suggested excercises for my horsie. thoroughly nice lady who seems to really enjoy her work and help horses and ponies, and knows her stuff too. Look her up on this www.acpat.org
Hope that helps.

What do you want? Chiropractor, Osteopth, Physio, Massage, Muscle release (Bowen/EMRT/TTouch)??? Does the pony have skeletal/muscle problems?
Tex is a Osteopath and he is brilliant at identifying problems and treating them. He works a lot with manipualation so depends what therapy you are after really!!

oooh i've opened a can of worms! Sorry.
Have contacted one of the people recommended, and will see how we go ....
Seems like Tex Gamble is like Marmite ......

I think that is a very apt description

If you choose to use him make sure firstly you get vet referral which is essential, if he does not request it he is acting illegally. Also check quals if he intends to manipulate as you have to have suitable qualifications to perform manipulations on horses (same as humans) as it is considered treatment. The only people who can treat a horse without such qualifications is a horse owner on their own horse. But these are essential questions for anyone who you may choose to treat your horse.

edit to give you a whole list of chiros/physios etc

so if I get a McTimoney practioner (sp? on both counts LOL) out to my pony, I have to get a vet referral? No one else seems to do this?
That is going to double the cost of having him looked at, for what reason?
I do agree that animals need protection in law, but I sometimes think the law looks after the vets better than the animals.

I have a friend who says Tex is amazing, He is a bit shocking in his methods, but she has had amazing results every time with him, and has been using him for about 10yrs!

You need permission rather than a referral Skewbald. Just give your surgery a call and let them know 'x' is coming out to give the pony a treatment. Normally thats all thats needed and wont cost you anything.

Yeah there prob are, but for my mate she has had good results every time

I'm in Wiltshire too. I've used Jenny Casemore for chiropractic, Belinda Cullen for massage therapy (brilliant!) and Suttons Animal Physio from Winchester. My own Chiropractor who also rides to a fairly high level told me that she thought Tex would "not be the best idea" for my horse. PM me if you need further details of any of these.
