Hi, went to see a horsey, and noticed one of it's eyes is a bit cloudy. You have to really look to tell. I pointed this out to the owner and she said he did it on a bush this week. It's happened before and with some ointment from the vet it went. In the end I rang her and said wans't interest in horse due to eye.

Cut a long story short she has offered me horsey very, very cheap. (she desperate to sell and can't afford vets bill, cant really afford her field rent)

I like him, but concerned about his eye.
Any one know anything about cloudy eye? I think I will ring my vets for advice, but wonderered if anyone on here had experience of this?

I think I am mad even considering it, I just feel sorry for him.

I wouldnt take her word for it. Talk to your vet and see what they say but if you really like the horse you could get your vet to go and look. There could be permanent damage but your vet will need to look at it to advise accordingly. I took a risk once and bought a horse with a blemish in one eye, ive still got him 17 years later and he's taught me more than any other person or horse. Every horse is different, you just have to weigh up the pros and cons and be aware you are taking a risk.

Ask her permission to speak to her vet & get their version, then run that by your vet if you are still worried.
Could be all sorts of things, but certainly worth verifying that it has actually been seen by a vet & a diagnosis made.

She uses the same vet as me, so will ask her. When it happened before it was 06! (she rang vets to find out and wanted some ointment, they told her the vet needs to see him first, as if they will just give it to her?!! ) She said she can't afford to get vet out to it now. (she cant afford her field rent, to feed him etc) I think she is using emotional blackmail to get me to have him. Just worried I end up stumping a massive vets bill etc if I take him. Will speak to her tomorrow and see if I can get a vet over to see horsey. (at my expensive). I must be mad or soft in the head :-(

No you are not mad or soft! If you REALLY like the horse then get it properly vetted and take the vets advice... I have bought several horses with defects (all have worked out well) but paid very little and spent plenty of time with a vet i trust discussing the pros and cons. Always bear in mind that you will not be able to insure an existing condition...

as above.
but do not buy the horse just because you feel sorry for him, this is the worst reason. he's not your responsibility... yet.
tell her to ring the Blue Cross if she really can't afford the bill, they might help, i have been told that they do with small animal cases.
poor horse.

It could be a cataract, or scarring from an ulcer or moonblindness. If the horse has done this before, I'd be wondering if it is already partly blind in the eye. The only money I'd be paying is to the vet to have it checked out. I agree with the suggestion she pass the poor animal to a sanctuary.

My horse's left eye is cloudy - it is due to uveitis that he had as a foal, he is now totally blind in that eye (and I have had a recent flare up of it)

I would def. get vet to fully check the eye before I made any decisions

Does sound like moon blindness, I knew a person with a pony with it and they could hardly sell it.
I personally wouldnt touch a horse with anything obviously wrong with it, especailly where eyes are concerned, healthy horses are bad enough with getting injuries n costing loads in vets fees never mind an ill one. But i am also totally soft so if somone was to offer a horses for free or it was going to end up on the scrap heap I would probably give it a chance
