Can anyone offer any advice? My friends dog has been diagnosed with a rare blood condition that makes his hair and skin fall off (due to poor circulation) and now his claws are starting to fall off too. Poor dog has been on steriods, been to specialist vet, been given lots of lotions and drugs but nothing is working. He is reluctant to eat anything and sleeps most of the time. Vet thinks all they can do for him is put him to sleep. Very sad situation but if anyone does know any cures/any specialists to ask please say, he is a lovely dog and no one wants to see him put to sleep

I feel very sorry for your friend, but I feel infinitely more sorry for the dog. I couldn't ever watch any of my dogs suffer like this. I would do the kindest thing and have the dog put to sleep.

In all honesty I would agree with Tia. It sounds as he is not having a good quality of life and if he is not repsonding to any treatment it is just kinder to PTS than cause any further suffering. I do feel for your friend though, it's a horrible decision to have to make

Such a horrible situation to be in and I wish I could offer a solution, but I cannot. Your friend has to do what is best for her poor loving friend (where the quality of life has to be questioned)..............even if it is the worst thing they have to face......................

I agree, i would love to tell you I know someone who could help the dogs condition but I dont, I had my eventer put to sleep last week and it was because there was nothing we could do to allow him to live happily, We are soo lucky we can let them go and rest in peace so i would have the dog pts so he can be at rest.

Have they tried a homeopathic or holistic vet? Not saying they will necessarily have the answer but I would consider it if it was me. Especially as standard medicine isnt working! They they will consider the whole dog, diet, lifestyle, other problems etc.

This sounds awful and if no-one has been able to offer a cure so far then I'd let the poor thing go as it sounds very unwell and unhappy. I'd say have him put to sleep because he IS such a lovely dog that he deserves a peaceful ending.
