Hi there - Inexperienced husband here desperately needing help. I have got up early this am and thought I would feed my wife’s horses as the food was laid out. Unbeknown to me one of the horses feeds had been changed to Alan and Page Calm and Condition which normally needs the whole scoop of water filled to the brim . I only gave it 2-3 seconds of water which is what I normally do.

many suggestions of what I should do as I’m now worried this will swell in his belly and cause Colic .

many thanks

I also think this will be OK. Are you able to keep an eye on the horse? I would watch for any signs of colic, but think it will be OK. You could always phone the vet for advice, on a Sunday they will be able to advise on the phone, then your wife will know that you did everything.

A friend once found a horse that had broken into the feed room and troughed loads of beet nuts, much worse than calm and condition for swelling. The vet was summoned and he recommended a sloppy feed to have moisture in the stomach as the stomach was batter able to survive swelling than the intestines. A sloppy feed was given and the horse was fine.

Also, what a kind husband you are, David.
