Hi - this is my one last ditch attempt on here at housing my horse.

I'm moving into Aston at the end of the month so really need to get livery sorted for my one gelding. Can anyone recommend anything please - i will consider grazing / field livery preferably as hes happy living out at the mo but if diy options / assisted are anywhere that anyone can recommend i'll also take a look.

Elvaston castle has been mentioned but have heard rumours on plans for the castle so not sure if that will remain?

Full livery is an option but not preferred if expensive.

thanks all.

Shardlow / aston / chellaston are all suitable ...there are so many fields but i wouldn't know where to start with asking farmers etc :(
help! x

If Elvaston isn't too far for you there is a yard next door which I can highly recommend.

The rest of these I have no direct up to date knowledge of
There are two yards on sinfin moor lane in chellaston
There is a yard on Aston Lane in Chellaston
A bit further out there are a couple of yards between ingleby and ticknall - Knowle Hill is one of them
Think there is a yard at Stanton By Bridge if you don't have an aversion to driving over swarkestone bridge!
What about Etwall? There is Hargate, Barleyfields and Oakdene?

I know people at Oakdene and haven't heard anything bad, think it is DIY only, and I have lessons at Barleyfields and know a few of the liveries, they have pretty decent facilities but I think at this time of year the turn out is fairly limited, and being a riding school the schools are often in use, there is off road hacking straight from the gate along the old railway path.

Alternatively what about Stenson/Barrow on Trent? There is a little DIY yard down near the stenson bubble that my friend was on for a while until her mare was PTS. There used to be livery at the kennels in barrow but that was yonks ago, there is also often a sign up on the main road advertising grazing to rent.

Hope that helps.

Oh and re the rumours about elvaston castle, the businesses are all operating as usual for now and the council have actually paid for some work to the gardens so it sounds as though nothing iminent will happen as regards selling the castle and the grounds. The proposed sale to convert it to a hotel fell through so nothing is happening at the moment according to the lady that runs the tearooms (which do lovely scones and are very reasonably priced!).

At the end of the day you aren't likely to get turfed out on your ear without significant notice.

Thankyou so much for that info...the ones in chellaston lane would be perfect but i'll have to go investigating...

really useful - cheers

p.s i don;t suppose you have any names / nums for the ones in sinfin moor lane do you - thats pretty close on themap.

I've looked at lakeview by the way and although lovely - perhaps a bit out of my price range.

My knowledge of the places on Sinfin Moor Lane is quite out of date, they used to be called Moorbridge Farm and Calvery Farm (back in the days when it was all fields), I know both yards are still there as a friend who lives in Chellaston went to look at a share at one of them, but they could have different names now. Moorbridge Farm used to be owned and run by the same family as the place on Aston Lane but I'm not sure whether that is still the case. They had tennants in at one point. OH did his NVQ there but the ladies that ran it then now have a place in Staffordshire......
