Hi

Just a quick question as I seem to be lacking in brains today.

I need to poultice a pony's knee, problem is she is turned out 24/7. Does anyone have any suggestions or innovative ideas to keep it dry?

Thanks

as said above and if you want to really keep it clean put a sock over her knee too....cut toe end out and make sure it's big enough to fit and then secure with either vetrap or gaffer tape...not too tight tho

That would have to be a final resort Caribb. Sisters ponies live out 24/7 with an old stone cartshead for shelter. Goats are in the field atm but when they go she is going to convert cartshed into 2 stables and a feed area (its massive).

If we have to, I could bring pony down to my place as we have loads of space.

make sure you don't bandage over the back of the knee....do it in a figure of 8 styleeee,
but gaffa tape and vet wrap work wonders

If you are poulticing for bruising or a minor wound then put a brushing boot on to help support the bandage.

If it is a puncture or deep wound then you shouldnt poultice a joint, in case the joint capsule is also punctured and you draw out joint fluid.

If youre not sure, call the vet!
