Also in dogs.

I'm asking for somebody else. If a small (9lb or so) dog has had a failed attempt to put back a dislocated hip manually(by a vet) and is to have an operation on the joint is time critical/important??? Given that it had a GA earlier today and is around 10 y.o. when is it safe for it to be put under again?

Is it acceptable for the vet to say keep the dog on cage rest for a week pending the availability of the surgeon or is this going to compromise the end result of the op/the dogs welfare?

If so, how do you go about changing vet surgeries mid treatment as I know they can be very funny about this.

Early replies much appreciated.

I don't know anything about dislocated hips, but a week sounds an awfully long time to put up with it and the pain/discomfort/inability to do normal things it would cause - I would rather my vets treated it as an emergency, and would say as much to them.

What was dog under GA for if not hip?

As long as the dog is monitored carefully, there is no reason it cannot have another GA immediately (unless it has some underlying problem)
