help! please!

we're meant to have exchanged on our new house yesterday afternoon... it didn't happen because our mortgage company needed something from our insurers and suddenly our insurers (NFU) have backed out of wanting to insure it (very long story...)

in the meantime, i need to find another insurer, asap. so we can exchange today.

if you have ever lived in a thatched place... who was your insurer? i can't find anyone else who insures thatched property...

help
please?

I cant believe you are having problems - we just organised our insurance through the mortgage company, no probs, and it doesnt even cost any more than for a "normal" house.

I really hope you can get this sorted quickly.

Our thatched home is insured with NFU.

When we bought the cottage, their quote was heaps cheaper than elsewhere. We have subsequently extended the property and NFU did send a loss adjuster to inspect the property as we had substantially increased out insurance cover.

There is an organisation "Thatch Owners" or something similar that does offer home insurance.

At the risk of "interfering", I trust you have had a full survey on the property rather than the building society version.

Good luck

I'm sure our thatched house is insured with the Halifax who we have our mortgage with, OH does all that sort of stuff so I'm not 100% but I'm pretty certain they are our building/roof insurers.

WE are insured with NFU and found they were the only people who would insure our place as we have a thatched farmhouse with cob walls and loads of cob barns and stables so no normal insurance companies would touch us for a decent price. Have you tried going to another office of the NFU they are all run on a fairly independent basis and have slightly differing criteria.
