Feel so annoyed with myself that my nerves were rattled today. My 19 month old filly usually leads really well very responsive to voice and light pressure, lead in rope halter and long rope. The only time she has a melt down is when she sees other horses being ridden, either seeing them over the horizon or the horses at current yard coming back and she half rears and broncs like crazy! Now pretty unnerving as she also running round me at top speed so all I can do is circle her until she calms down. It happened again today and now I'm so anxious about leading her over fields to her new paddock and field mates. Do trainers actually come out to help with yard moves as I think if I just had someone with me for moral support I'll be confident I'm doing well? I'm nr Chelmsford/Southend

Rope halter and 10 foot rope with heavy clip, great to lead until she sees/hears a horse and rider. I've just been leading her round the farm she's at, taking her down to the traffic but the road is a dangerous national limit narrow windey lane so haven't been able to do much road work unless it's been closed due to flooding/maintenance and she's been fine. I think I need to do some 'sacking' out this weekend and purposely lead her around when the horses come back from their hack, it's just timing it right. She doesn't need bitting/chains etc she isn't strong and I think causing her 'pain' when she's excited will intensify the situation, I just need to bring her energy down. I know what I need to do its just unnerving going into the 'unknown' with the move, that's why I thought a trainer onhand would give me a boost...

Urgh...I feel your nerves!! I had to lead my very excitable and nutty 16.2 filly quite a distance from the field to the yard yesterday. In a force 10 gale with the rain lashng down. It's a remote and isolated place and I was on my own with no chance of any help. She's a big strong athletic girl, one false move and I would have been squished into the mud. But...I did it and survived! Hat and gloves for starters, long lead rope I see you've already thought of that, me too, I use a lunge line and a Dually, so if she wants to go flying I do have some control, she can only go so far. Lurve my Dually! And if she wants to have a funny couple of minutes in circles me round me that's fine, she can let off steam and then I can reel her back in to me. In fact the funny couple of minutes have turned into maybe 30 seconds as she's finding it doesn't really get her anywhere, and we only go forward when she's being sensible next to me.

The people who do my loading and transport are stars, they tend to stay and give me a hand getting the horses to where they need to go when it's needed, perhaps they are pretty exceptional but would your transporters do the same? Or are you moving your youngster yourself? Have you got a good friend who'll come and help? I do know what you mean, having another person there really helps!

No box required as im only leading next door, but it's the wide open fields I'm worried about and then when she claps eyes on the other horses and if they start of course she's going to join in or vice versa! My OH is going to be walking ahead incase of traffic and opening gates and then my new YO will meet me at her field to let us in. Im feeling better already just for venting, hopefully I've seen her worst and I've handled it so least I'll be ready when the time comes and can keep her feet moving. It's just she's flying round me bucking away and stopping for the odd rear, I guess if I just keep her moving and circle if she gets in front, I don't fancy backing her up during that just in case she rears and want to keep at her should away from those hooves! Mine is 14.1hh and she was born at her current farm so has been in a bubble so far. I guess doesn't matter what age there's a lot of horses out there with owners anxious about a move! Ok guess I'll have to suck it up and get on with it, she'll be better off in the long run and will have riders going past her all the time at her new place so she'll learn an awful lot. She's bored of me now she wants playmates!

Woohoo just wanted to say confidence is fully restored! Wore my hat today and did some leading training, did some trotting inhand up and down the lane, lovely didn't even try to get ahead, was pouring with rain so no riders about unfortunately as was ready for it! I think the difference was when she's gotten excited at the riders is was when I've been inhand grazing her not purposefully leading her forwards, I think I'll be fine next sunday although i shall be ready for fireworks but hopefully ive seen and dealt with the worse now and will do a post saying I did it! Huge relief! Roll on Sunday!
