So, I've slated Hunter wellies for years, as I've been one of their many victims, whose suffered from having to endure wet feet since their rubber and their production quality diminished some years ago. I'm now an Aigle girl, and have no problems whatsoever with Aigle.

Having sworn I'll never buy another pair of hunters again - I was drawn in and intrigued by their new advertising campaign for a new hunter riding welly. They say that the rubber has been especially developed to withstand equine and farm use.

I'm riding my horses twice a day at the moment, and by not having to change boots in the early mornings between stable duties, riding and turning out, it could save me a few precious minutes...

So I ordered them online, they arrived, I wore them for one morning, and they're going back!

The foot is abnormally narrow. There's a sharp ridge I can feel all along the inside sole even with my socks on. Yet the ankle is really wide, baggy and unflattering, not to mention uncomfortable. The neoprene is only on the outer side of the boot, and there is a shaped rubber panel on the inside with a sticking out, sharp rubber edge - which marks your saddle!
The outer sole is smooth and very slippery. The boots are heavy and clumpy to walk in and to top it off (and this is the main reason for my outburst on here) I have just slid a*** over *i* in my horses muddy field!!!!:mad:
 
Oohh, another one here that has avoided Hunters like the plague for years but I was looking at the H&H comp to win some earlier. I was going to enter till I saw it was one of those 'kin awful photo comps where you have to get 'likes' to win. (and the fact I havent got a pic of me in any hunters :D)

Will you be able to return them if youve worn them? I suppose you can as unfit for purpose...
 
I've hosed them and they've come up as brand new again - they only had 2 hours use this morning.

I was so annoyed after going SPLAT in the field, I felt compelled to send them back covered in mud, poo with woodpellets stuck on, but I thought better of it :cool:
 
Yep another Hunter's hater here, gave up on them years ago..... biggest waste of money going.... I swear I will never fall in to any of there advertsing rubbish!!!
 
Sounds like they're not fit for purpose, nor of merchantable quality.

Send back and get a refund.



I used to love Hunters! Swore by them, now I just swear at them :(

D1 and D2 and I had Hunters, then the younger Ds had to have more as theirs died (I thought it was the Ds doing 'something' to them), but then mine went as well :(. I apologized profusely to the Ds, gave up trying to get anywhere with the shop I bought them from, and now buy anything but Hunters :(
 
My first pair of Hunter wellies lasted me nearly 20 years!

The next pair lasted 6 months!

I now have Land Master 'cheap as chips' wellies from our local Dickies - not smart, but they do the job, and I see all the farmers, tree surgeons etc wear them.

Hunter badly lost the plot somewhere - never mind, the Chelsea tractor brigade will keep them in business!
 
Having slipped your foot into an Aigle I cannot imagine how you let yourself go with a Hunter :eek: :D

Hunters are shockingly bad, Aigle are fab :)
 
Hunters went downhill when they moved production from Dumfries (in Scotland) to abroad. When I lived in Dumfries (many years ago) you could buy them cheap from the factory shop and they were great. The first pair I bought from a shop in Somerset only lasted a few months - I too now buy Aigle :)
 
Hey, out of interest what is the common fault with hunters these days?

I have one pair that are still going strong after 10 years, and two pairs of recent colourful ones bought purely for festivals that have both survived horrid conditions at festivals and ended up being yard boots (as with most of my clothes/ sensible shoes!). I expected the jazzy ones to not hold up to much but they've been great and v comfy. Reason I ask is that OH wants some nice Welles (his £6 dunlops hagiven ally given up the ghost) and I don't want to invest if there are common issues. Is it all types of them?

These are the Aigle's I've got, they're lightweight, very comfy, and have good grip in mud. http://www.ladds.co.uk/website/aigle-parcours.html

I also wear them for walking the dogs, as well as for doing all the yard jobs, so my wellies have to withstand quite a lot. At the weekends we regularly do 10 mile walks with the dogs and I have no complaints wearing them.
 
I'm fed up of seeing people with gleeming hunters walking around the highstreets wearing them as 'fashion'... I'd much prefer to see a bit of poo and mud all over them even if they aren't doing their job properly! :P
 
Thanks for the Aigle recommendation.

When it ticks round to Autumn I shall give them a go. I'm not buying new wellies now, I only bought my muckboots two months ago :mad: The puncture repair kit patch I have on there seems to be doing a good enough job for now. I'm so stylish!
 
Hunters have now been sold again, now owned by a american company so we will have to wait and see if any improvment is made to their quality. I sell hunters and have as many come back as we sell and are thinking off getting up with them but on our side off things hunters deal really well with customer complaints and don't even want the boots back they just credit us. Must be use to the **** they sell now ;)
they aren't classed as a working boot anymore they are a fashion boot and not for everyday use. Their years warrenty have come off all their new stock.
 
I bought mine about 4/5 years ago and there doing fine. its only been this last couple of months I've been wearing them very regularly.
 
Aigle parcours all the way. My first pair lasted well over 10 years. My 2nd pair I've just got are just as comfy, well worth the money. Never had a blister and have walked miles in them, even with thin socks on. I live in mine.
 
My husband says his latest pair of Hunters feel completely different to his previous pair, which lasted years.

Another thing I'm fed up with is my barbour jackets. They only seem to last about a year before they wear out at the elbows. Some cheaper makes seem to outlive them and cost a fraction of the price. I have decided this jacket is my last.

These once great companies are marketing for the "new country dweller" who has bought their big house in the country, but only looks at it or festival goers who only wear their coats/boots once or twice a year!
 
hate them too, i bought a pair about 2 years ago, they split within a month of use (just general yard use mucking out ect..) were sooo not waterproof even before they had split :mad: but my dad has a pair, years old (when they were made properly lol) and they are STILL waterproof but then again nowadays he only wears them once a day for about 15mins when he helps me turn my boys out in the morning, so they have never had an awful lot of use :rolleyes:

oh hunter, what happened to you :roll eyes: i remember being so jealous of a girl who was at the yard when her dad bought her a pair of RED hunters when the colours were just coming out but my mum wouldn't buy me a pair until my foot size stabilised! i finally got a beautiful pair of fuschia hunters i adored them. 6months later they died. enter second pair. 6months later they too died. i then in hearted a pair from a friend that hadn't worn them for years so i thought my luck was in and i got one of the 'Good old Hunters' i wore them every where - 6months came and went they endured one of the wettest festivals i could have imagined, IOW 2011, the mud came to the top of my hunters, i did see a girl crying in brand new hunters, i like to think it was because she didn't want to get them dirty :roll eyes: mine survived. i carried on wearing them everyday they then went to V festival in the middle of essex! enter fashionable hunters only :L a girl looked at mine (i hadn't bothered to clean them since yard duties) and said - i haven't cleaned mine since last year either :L these have now died. they are not going to be replaced by hunters. hunters should be added to that 'reminicing' thread 'when hunters were reliable and lasted for years (note the plural of year. . . .)

I love mine too - but they also only lasted about 6 months. I sent them back to Ariat everytime and got them replaced. They sent me a free postage label too. SO basically I have almost permanently new wellies but it is a PITA. Will go for Aigle next time I think!
 
Ditto everyones new Hunter stories. I bought m. pink ones when they first started making colours (just before they moved over to Asia) and they're still going strong 10+ years later. My friend (having seen mine) bought a pair and they lasted just months. She had them replaced 3times before giving up. I know quite a few people the same.

I've now got Toggi wellies and they're still going strong after 3yrs of serious hard work (the soles getting thin but the rest is still fine)

Funny you post that as that is EXACTLY how I would describe my £10 tesco wellies that I wore today! So that says a lot really!
 
They are just not made how they used to be ! My last pair lasted about 7 years (being used everyday) I replaced them last year as they finally got a hole in them. The replacements already have about 4holes on each boot :-(

I remember when I got my first pair that they were very expensive for a welly
 
*stupid phone posted b4 I had finished !

,the new hunters are fairly reasonably priced but just bad quality ! Have been putting off getting anymore til the start of winter but as its so wet still im getting fed up of gettjng wet feet...Will be getting some Le Chameaus next to try !
