Hi my friend's cat has had a urinary infection and has been told to feed urinary cat food. She is a pensioner and has seen the cost of this. Are there any alternatives out there please?

Not a cat, but one of our dogs has just had a lot of bladder stones removed and will be on a urinary diet for the rest of her life We buy it from Zooplus, a lot cheaper than the vets.

Amazon, zooplus and various other online retailers all sell various different types She’d be best off asking vet for recommendations of specific foods (some of them have extremely daft names) and then she can see which is most affordable for her. Purina pro plan, royal canin, hills & dechra specific all do urinary diets but they can be quite specific depending on what you’re trying to target / what you’re trying to do to the pH & what you’re trying to dissolve if crystals.

In the meantime doing everything she can to encourage increased water intake may also help.

Also this newly released leaflet may be of interest to her as got lots of info on things she can try to help (depending of course on what the actual issue is)
