Im so annoyed...I sold my pony about 6 weeks ago after owning her for 15 years for an absolute bargin. I had a lady come along who seemed nice with her little boy who's husband was a vet. I looked around their fields and yard area which seemed great and she told me she had older members of the family who would also be riding my pony to keep her fit.

She wanted to take my pony away for a months trial to see how she got with her and then would decide if she wanted to buy her. After 1 week she decided she liked her and wanted to buy her...she went on and on about lowering the price and in the end I didnt budge and got the right amount for a 15 yr old pony who had competed..£800.

My pony had always been well kept...I had friends who were vets and I was a vet nurse for some time so got very cheap drugs and feed....so she has always had the best and I totally spoiled her.

Once sold all seemed fine and didnt hear anything until tonight....the lady has text me in quite a aggressive tone saying that my pony is now lame, she thinks she has back problems and wondering what has been wrong with her...basically I feel indicating I have sold her a dog....! I am so angry as I was nothing but honest, showed her all the papers and passport details, worked with her to have her on a months loan...on the other hand she did nothing but go on about my tack and how ugly and old it was, constantly trying to lower the price, mess me around when paying and also went on about her husband vet looking over her and if they found any problems then she would lower her price even more...

it was a total headache and if I didnt have exams on, new kitchen and bathroom being done, my friends 4x4 out of action with trailer and redundancy scare I would have taken her back....

I know she has gone to a good home but I am so angry she has text me like this..what do you think....my husband wanted to just delete the message and not answer....Im a bit nervous that she might threaten with legal action...she does seem that type....!!!

Im also worried due to my pony having laminitus 10 years ago - which she knew about when she bought her and her only ever being lame during that illness....I believe she may have it again but is too silly to work it out...? I really dont feel Im going to get shot of this one for a while....maybe moving might be an option!

What legal action can she take? If you are a private seller & you have honestly described the pony then there is nothing for you to worry about. This nuyer has had the pony for 6 weeks, that is long enough to knacker up a pony's back & also cause lameness. They may have done too much work with the pony too quickly or something like that.

As to wether you reply to them or not is a matter for you but as for legal action.....that is total bluster, there isn';t a solicitor that would take on such a no hope case.

I can appreciate how upset you may feel though....this text you received was unnecessary.

I agree totally with TZ. there is nothing she can do, she can't sue you or such like. Personally, I would just keep, but not reply, to the text.
Keep it in case you need it for any reason should she decide to get nasty.
Hopefuly, if you ignore her, she will soon back off,

Did you get a receipt for the money too? But in all honesty there is nothing that can be done from her point of view. You sold her the pony, took the money agreed and that is it. 6 weeks down the line cannot possibly be your fault in any way if the pony is now lame!!! How ridiculous! Do not worry, but keep the text just in case and ignore. There are some awful people about.

Just ignore it. I think most of us remember the saga of how they were going to pay for it etc. the day before they went on holiday.

They sound like professional pain's in the backsides!!!

I feel really sorry for you tbh. Its hard enough selling a pony and its so much better if its totally amicable. It sounds like shes been reading the articles in H and H about Red Quest (think thats the name). Shes one of those who just continually tries it on. If nothing has ever been diagnosed as wrong with your pony's back then your vets could prove that anyway. She wont have a leg to stand on. Unfortunately there are people who always want someone to blame.

She also sounds like a complete bully.

I expect if you asked her she would want some money back!!! Shes probably still p....d off that you didnt budge on the price.

You could text back saying thank you for your message I have forwarded it to my solicitor!! But that might be red rag to a bull!!

Considering her husband is a "vet" it doesnt sound as if he knows J..K S..T about horses!!!

One to avoid!!!

thanks everyone....yep it does make me laugh I have to say....I think she has a cheek really and her husband did look over her before they decided to buy her...she went on and on about her melanomias and problems around and in her mouth etc...I knew there was nothing wrong, knew she was just trying it on and suspect she has always done this when buying horses.
I will just keep the text but im sure it must be either bad shoeing, bad fitted tack ( she mentioned changing her saddle )over worked on rough or hard ground or even just laminitus....in all the years I had her nothing ever went wrong and even when she was on loan for a year there were no reports of lameness or back issues. I made sure she knew my pony was prone and sold her with a grazing muzzle.
I dont think the husband can be bothered really...she is prob a right pain in the bum...

Oh and I forgot to say I had a complete contract written up too when I sold her stating the price, what she was sold with, passport details and most importantly - stating any illnesses or problems which occur after the date I sold her to them I would not be liable for etc...
so I did have a full contract which we both signed with a witness :0)

Sounds like she is trying it on. Six weeks if far to late anything could have happened to the pony in that time.

The little boy who's husband is a vet made me smile
