The chance of botulism seems to be a lot less over here than in North America. I know that haylage, for example, isn't generally fed in North America due to the risk. I only found out when I mentioned how much Jonny loved haylage when he arrived and was warned about it (and naturally freaked but yard owner and vet assured me it was very very low risk here).
The biggest issue with botulism is that it has no smell or taste and I don't think it can really be "killed"
