Im selling my horse, a woman is arranging to come and view him, she is coming from the USA.

Now i am just curious as to why she'd be willing to come so far? Are horses more expensive in USA?

I dont mind where shes from as long as shes serious! So whats the difference in showjumpers here and in the USA?

Horses are insanely expensive over here. I don't have one at the moment, but will occasionally find myself browsing on sites like equine.com, and my jaw often drops wide open. I can quite understand why someone would travel all the way to England.

$20k isnt the same as £20k for us? It works out at exactly £10,147.29! So basically half the price. But the prices are still absolutely crazy! Like toto says Ive also seen what I would call "basic" horses jumping only 2'6 for over $20,000. For example:

£30,000 for a 14hh pony who jumps 2'9?! HELLLOOOOOOO!!!!

$136,000??? Ummmmm........

Oh look, bargain at £50k and only schooling over 3ft

Now THIS one is surely a joke right? That price?! huh?

I think that most of those prices are high. However, quality hunters ready to do the professional divisions (Pre-Green) are very expensive (the one listed for £50,000). You'd pay less for a horse with a less typey jump and less potential to do the Pre-Green, the First Year and Second Year Green divisions. I do think $100,000 is too much for this one, especially since TBs are a bit unpopular right now.

Jumpers at 3' to 3'6" cost less than hunters because they don't need to conform to a certain type. If you want to compare, look for horses advertised at Children's or Adult Jumpers. Also, the highest I've ever seen Pony Jumpers in Canada are 1.00m and that is at the best shows...they just don't jump ponies anything like here.

For a showjumper an amateur would ride to do the 3'6", I've heard the going price starts about $30,000 these days. For me, the horse would have some competition experience at that level to pay that much but might not have much scope to go higher.
