Has anyone ventured state side for a lone ranch holiday? I was thinking about saving up to go but OH is not bothered about going so it looks like i would have to go alone. Are they suited to single's anyone know?

I have thought about doing one of these too. I would have thought it would be fine to go alone. Think it would be great being a cowgirl for a week!!. Beautiful countryside, well behaved horses, hunky cowboys, sounds brilliant. Think I may start saving too(will take a while though)

Yes I went in 2003 to Wyoming, I was only 19 at the time but it didn't worry me.

I went with Ranch Rider, they were really helpful - I phoned them and asked which were best for singles and they certainly narrowed the choice for me.

I will say I was lucky in the week I chose that the place I went was fully booked (I think they had about 10 guests) so I had plenty of people to talk to - if I had gone a week later there would only have been a couple.

It was definately an experience I enjoyed (not keen on the western saddles though, which surprised me!!!) and wouldn't hesitate to go again.

Hope that helps a bit

Thanks girls!! Yes I think when I've saved I'll ring whoever I go with and see what they say are best for singles.

I went with my husband to Arizona (Grapevine Canyon), and would say you would get on fine going alone.
The staff ate with the guests so it was very sociable, and you are knackered from riding each day so you are early to bed. We booked with ranch rider and they very very helpful, listened to what we were looking for and recommeded accordingly. The place they did recommed was perfect.

I went to Los Alamos in Spain alsone about 5 years ago and got on great. I find "horse people" very friendly in general as you always have at least one thing in common!

TB - a friend of mine was looking into ranch holidays for singles just the other day. He showed me a brochure from Ranch America who do a holiday designed for singles on a small ranch in Alberta Canada. Looks lovely and is designed for those travelling alone.

I found a brilliant website once which listed hundereds of ranch holidays (and accidentally ordered the brochures for about 100 of them). Quite a lot of them had a couple of dedicated "singles" weeks each year, so everyone else there would be on their own too and you would have a better chance of meeting people. If you go for one of the non-singles ones, I would look for one that has either social facilities (bar, games room etc.) or with a pool or gym so at least you know you can entertain yourself in the evenings.
