I'm fed up with the part-plastic, part cardboard drums on which ordinary electric fencing tape is sold, and I wondered if any of you substituted something better?
Our horses are very respectful of tape, so we rarely use it electrified. We strip graze and also 'paddock ' our pasture with it, and if there is more tape on the roll that we require we just leave it on the roll and hanging, rather than cut it. The trouble is that the roll bit of the drum is made of cardboard, and as soon as that gets damp the ends fall off!
Today I was reducing a large cirle of new grass, and nearly went insane trying to rewind surplus tape onto the roll. There must be some better, more solid kind of roller onto which we could transfer our tape on purchase - only we can't think of one! We watch with envy as the local contract shepherd unrolls seeming miles of sheep fence automatically from his quad bike. That sort of equipment we couldn't justify, but if anybody knows where we could get all-metal drums, or ANYTHING better that what we have now, we would love to know. Thank you.
