Why are people so unwilling to pay 10% of cost to get a broker who takes care of everything. The broker I used knew the word on the street about the seller and the horse. He arranged for us to have them on a 2 week trail (we never had one who we did not have on trail), he arranged the vet check, gave us a month of schooling to help adapt our horse to our style of riding/playing, and if we kept the horse at his club we had a 90 day period where if the horse did not work out we could trade it in (only person did this, and it worked seemlessly).
Buying horses is tough - I classify myself as pretty experienced, and unless I know the seller, or can get word on the horse from a friend - to me 10% is money DAMN well spent. It is equal to a couple months schooling, 1 problem that requires veterinary attention, etc.
