Hello, are there any insurance companies that cover you, if you use an equine podiatrist instead of a registered farrier? Most seem to say that you need to use a registered farrier or won't give a firm answer on whether the insurance will be valid or not.

Thanks

When I asked my insurance company, I was told it was fine. I think there was some insurance wording such as providing their work wasn't directly or indirectly related to any claim but my EP is better than my farrier ever was, so I'll take my chances!

When I claimed for EMS I was never asked if I used a farrier or EP and there were foot x-rays involved, so I assume it didn't matter!

Thanks for the replies. I have had one insurance say they would check and never got back to be but small print said had to be a registered farrier and another said it would depend but wouldn't elaborate further. Given the cost of insurance I was hoping for something more definite from them...but I guess if they don't ask....

Totally agree MuddyMonster, my EP is also better than the farriers. I am thankful I found him!

NFU covered me using a podiatrist but I had to send them her qualification certificate. Once I did that they were fine about it.

KBIS were fine with my qualified/registered podiatrist when I claimed for trimming and hoof boots post x-rays years ago. Never even questioned or thought about it tbh!

Thanks for the information. I saw KBIS said in the small print that podiatrists needed to have 2 vet references but maybe the reality is they don't follow up on this.

Thanks.
