Hello

Just wanted some opinions on using a pony saddle on a 15.2hh horse?

I'm looking for a new jumping saddle for my chap. The problem I often find on jumping saddles is that because I'm a bit of a shorty the flaps are too large. After having a look round the saddlers selection of second-hand saddles we came across a Barnsby pony jumping saddle. It's a 17inch seat and wide fitting. My 5yr old is a 15.2hh Quarter Horse x TB and is quite short coupled.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

x

I wouldn't think it'd be a problem if it suits and fits you and your horse

17" isn't really a pony saddle. Plenty of horses have 17" saddle and couldn't take anything bigger.

As long as it's not to small for you, or too long for him, the main consern is getting the width and balance fitting correct. If they aren't right, it doesn't matter what length the saddle is cos it's going to hurt the horse reagrdless!

I think the Pony bit is maybe the proportions of the flaps which are quite small (but then I have short legs!)

Anyway doesn't matter as it's a bit too wide unfortunately. Back to the second hand room!

Thanks,
