Yard that I'm on has fencing powered by mains electric, however the mains system is quite old and the current is very faint/more or less non existent, I'm worried about my horse barging through the fencing so YO has suggested me using my energiser. She doesn't seem to think this will interfere with the old mains system, is it likely to cause any damage to my energiser or any sort of damage in general? (currently having visions of either blowing something up or bringing down the national grid!)

I suspect you'll fry your energiser.

Why not just spend a bit of.time sorting the fence. Clear anything that's touching the line, fix parts that are frayed or snapped. And buy a new energiser. If the earth pole is already there ( needs to be a good metre+ deep) then it's just a case of plugging new one in and clipping line to it. They're about £50 secondhand.

Honestly, it's a million times easier than messing around with battery energisers!
