Hi ya

I was told by my vet last year to use frontline as they thought that my horse had leg mites. They said just to spray it on once a day as it is quite strong. I just sprayed it enough so that the skin was damp. My horse had some bare skin and it stung him a little. The vet said it does depend on the horse as mine has sensitive skin with thin hair (hes an arab) but other heavier horses with thicker skin/hair will need more sprayer on.

Hope this helps.

I did my rescue mare with it for lice twice, over a 2 week period - see my thread in NL - For Dubble. She was badly infected. My Shire had leg mites. I trimmed his feathers off and also gave him 2 doses over 2 weeks - all gone

I used it on mine initally every 10 days for 3 treatments - I also use it on the tails if they are itchy - then I use oil and sulphur on my heavies to keep the buggers at bay.

I always keep some handy for itchy tails or I have had sheath mites on Chancer which it got rid of. Anything left over goes on the yard cat if I can catch him.

If not using oil and sulphur for mites, I would personally use it at the first sign of itching/stamping.

I always buy the 500 ml which is about £35 - but I have two big hairy chaps to do and they have a lot of feather. I found I needed one per horse when I was doing the initial three treatments for their legs and tail.

I now find one last a long time as I tend to only use in on the belly and tail as the pig oil and sulphur keeps the legs free of them - and is a lot cheaper though a bit messy.

If your horse has a lot of feather you will find it difficult to get the Frontline right down to the skin unless you trim off the feathers. I have a feathery pony who has had mites in the past and found Frontline hopeless because of the amount of feather. I used a dog shampoo instead (Seleen) which got rid of the mites. I have been putting pig oil on his feathers all winter and this seems to have stopped the little biters from coming back.
